We are seeking an organised Writer’s Assistant to coordinate and assist in the writing activities of a busy Showrunner / Director / Writer.

This role requires prior relevant experience and touch typing skills [90 words per minute].

Role Summary:

This role is ideal for someone with ambition to progress in the area of scripting and creative development in the entertainment industry.

The Showrunner has an extensive and diverse slate of projects both in production and development, including two animated shows currently in production with Netflix, an adult TV drama in development with Lionsgate and a number of music-based projects in development with Universal Music Group.

Working alongside the Showrunner, you will be exposed to a variety of formats and industry leaders within Australia, America and the UK.

The candidate who succeeds in this role will be skilled in organisation & time management, and has had some exposure to scripting and creative development within film and/or TV.

She or he enjoys and thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment, is comfortable adapting to ever-changing schedules and deadlines and is flexible to work outside regular business hours and travel overseas for work.

The Writer’s Assistant is required to:
Coordinate and schedule time for writing activities both in Sydney and abroad, working within production schedules
Maintain and set up writing spaces in Sydney and LA, ensuring food, stationery and office equipment are supplied and monitored
Type copy for the Showrunner during writing sessions
Proofread and provide basic editing on scripts, treatments, outlines and other creative materials
Create daily plans for writing sessions Travel overseas with the Showrunner to coordinate writing sessions (time spent abroad is mostly in LA). Longer writing stints will involve personal assistance including shopping and meal preparation
Maintain and implement filing systems for writing work
Provide assistance prior to and during pitch meetings when required
Draft and edit personal correspondence on behalf of the Showrunner
Provide personal assistance as required in conjunction with the Showrunner’s Executive Assistant
Be able to adapt to changing schedules and travel abroad for periods up to 4 – 6 weeks.

Selection Criteria:
At least 3 years’ experience assisting creatives in the entertainment industry, or similar experience
Proficient touch typing skills (90 words per minute preferable)
A proven ability to take dictated notes
Clear and concise communication skills, with excellent attention to detail
A proven ability to create and maintain schedules
A demonstrated flair for writing
A calm and confident nature
A goal of progressing in the area of scripting and creative development within the entertainment industry
A valid driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable personal transportation
Ability to travel abroad on a regular basis and work outside regular business hours when required.
